This year's mugs feature Manchester's giant Santa, who is returning to Albert Square for the first time in almost a decade.

Manchester City Council has unveiled two limited-edition Christmas mugs featuring a retro-style design of the city's giant Santa surrounded by wrapped presents and Christmas trees.

The illustration also includes falling snow, the Manchester skyline and the Town Hall's clock tower.

Both mugs feature the same artwork, created by the council's in-house design team, but come in different shapes and colours.

The hot chocolate mug is taller and narrower with a white background, while the Glühwein mug is shorter and rounder with a green design.

The mugs will be available at all ten Christmas Market locations from Friday 6 November, while stocks last.

Customers will pay a £3.50 deposit when purchasing a hot drink, the same amount charged last year.

They can either return the mug to the stall and receive their deposit back or keep it as a souvenir.

Manchester City Council said its annual Christmas mugs have sold out in previous years, with visitors advised to purchase them early if they want to keep one.

Councillor Garry Bridges, Leader of Manchester City Council, said: "Our top team of talented in-house designers have done it again! They've come up with yet another brilliant design this year for our iconic Christmas mugs that really catches the mood of the moment as Manchester counts down to Christmas."

He added: "With their fun retro design the mugs are sure to be a massive hit with everyone who visits our fantastic Christmas markets this year and we can't wait to welcome everyone to Manchester over the next couple of months to help us celebrate the festive season in style."

The Christmas Markets will open across ten city centre locations on Friday 6 November and run until Tuesday 22 December.

Market stalls at Albert Square and Cathedral Gardens will remain open until Sunday 3 January 2027.

The festive programme will also include the return of the giant Ferris wheel to Albert Square and the Skate Manchester ice rink at Cathedral Gardens.

Both attractions are scheduled to operate from 6 November until 3 January.

Manchester's Christmas Parade will take place on Sunday 6 December.
